When you are ready to give up. . . try, try again.

A common question from new and prospective clients is “How many sessions is this going to take?” My response is often “as many as it takes for you to feel the shift you are looking for.”  I often add that clients may expect to experience a shift within the first 3 sessions, yet there is no guarantee.  Sometimes this is met with understanding and other times this is met with an incredulous scoff as if Hypnotherapy can undo years and years of behavior in a single session.  Though I have witnessed many ONE SESSION WONDERS like that, I am more realistic and remind clients that hypnotherapy is a process, that just like MANY things in their lives, requires more than one attempt.  Consider how many attempts you have made to do the following:

1. Cover all your gray.
2. Bake a souffle.
3. Lose weight.
4. Find a job.
5. Make a baby.
6. Potty train.
7. Discipline your children.
8. Make “A hole-in-one.”
9. Make money.
10. Find love.
11. Practice yoga.
12. Learn to drive.
13. Beat cancer.
14. Break a bad habit.
15. Network.
16. Learn to walk.
17. Ride a bike.
18. Learn to speak your mind.
19. Discover who you are.
20. Create change.

As with everything we do that adds value to our lives, we imagine, try, learn and grow.  We engage in a process to achieve our desired results. Achieving those results takes vision, commitment, and practice….AND it takes more than one attempt. Why should hypnotherapy be any different?  Consider the words of Poet, T. H. Palmer:

Try, Try Again

‘Tis a lesson you should heed,
If at first you don’t succeed,
Try, try again;

Then your courage should appear,
For if you will persevere,
You will conquer, never fear
Try, try again;

Once or twice, though you should fail,
If you would at last prevail,
Try, try again;

If we strive, ’tis no disgrace
Though we do not win the race;
What should you do in the case?
Try, try again

If you find your task is hard,
Time will bring you your reward,
Try, try again

All that other folks can do,
Why, with patience, should not you?
Only keep this rule in view:
Try, try again.

Be patient.  Don’t give up. Whether it’s hypnotherapy or another modality of change, keep hammering away with faith and confidence that evidence of change is appearing every day.

Looking forward to seeing you in my chair soon.
